Wildlife Preparedness Day

The Forest Service will host a community wide event, sponsored in collaboration with members of the Teton Area Wildfire Protection Coalition (TAWPC). The public is invited to take part in a Community Fire Protection Fair at the Adams Canyon fire house in Jackson Wyoming on May 7th. The event will be presented in a fairground setting where multiple stakeholders from TAWPC, will provide information on fire adaptive communities and home fire safety thru booths and demonstrations.

Exhibits will include Firewise education materials, information on funding opportunities for fuels reduction treatments through state grants for private landowners, home fire extinguisher checks and “Ready Set Go” information.  Throughout the event, power point presentations, notifying homeowners of wildland fire science and the many effective measures neighbors can use to protect their homes and neighborhoods in the event of an unwanted wildfire will be presented. With the support of the local volunteer and wildland firefighters, a free wood chipper service will be available the day of the event for homeowners to bring vegetative materials removed from around their homes and properties for chipping and disposal. Smokey Bear, refreshments and “touch a fire truck” will be available for kids throughout the event.
